# Upanishads API

> Upanishads API: get any passage by its reference, as JSON. F. Max Muller, 1879. 207 passages, public domain, no key needed.

The API serves **The Upanishads, Part 1** (F. Max Muller, 1879) as JSON, one passage at a time, by the reference people use. Teachings of the Vedas on the self and Brahman. It has 207 passages in 3 upanishads. No key and no account.

## Get a passage

```bash theme={null}
# Khandogya 6.8
curl https://api.urantia.dev/scriptures/upanishads/Khandogya%206.8
```

```json theme={null}
{
  "data": {
    "corpus": {
      "slug": "upanishads",
      "title": "The Upanishads, Part 1",
      "translator": "F. Max Muller",
      "year": 1879
    },
    "passages": [
      {
        "ref": "Khandogya 6.8",
        "division": 1,
        "text": "1. Uddâlaka Âruni said to his son Svetaketu: 'Learn from me the true nature of sleep (svapna). When a man sleeps here, then, my dear son, he becomes united with the True, he is gone to his own (Self). Therefore they..."
      }
    ]
  }
}
```

The slug `upanishads`, the id `upanishads-muller-1879`, and the prefix `upanishad` all name this text.
