# Rig Veda API

> Rig Veda API: get any passage by its reference, as JSON. Ralph T. H. Griffith, 1896. 10,505 passages, public domain, no key needed.

The API serves **The Hymns of the Rigveda** (Ralph T. H. Griffith, 1896) as JSON, one passage at a time, by the reference people use. The oldest Vedic hymns. It has 10,505 passages in 10 books. No key and no account.

## Get a passage

```bash theme={null}
# RV 10.129.1
curl https://api.urantia.dev/scriptures/rig-veda/10.129.1
```

```json theme={null}
{
  "data": {
    "corpus": {
      "slug": "rig-veda",
      "title": "The Hymns of the Rigveda",
      "translator": "Ralph T. H. Griffith",
      "year": 1896
    },
    "passages": [
      {
        "ref": "RV 10.129.1",
        "division": 10,
        "text": "THEN was not non-existent nor existent: there was no realm of air, no sky beyond it. What covered in, and where? and what gave shelter? Was water there, unfathomed depth of water?"
      }
    ]
  }
}
```

The slug `rig-veda`, the id `rig-veda-griffith-1896`, and the prefix `rv` all name this text.
