# Prose Edda API

> Prose Edda API: get any passage by its reference, as JSON. Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur, 1916. 603 passages, public domain, no key needed.

The API serves **The Prose Edda** (Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur, 1916) as JSON, one passage at a time, by the reference people use. Snorri Sturluson's prose account of the Norse gods, about 1220. It has 603 passages in 3 parts. No key and no account.

## Get a passage

```bash theme={null}
# Gylfaginning 1.1
curl https://api.urantia.dev/scriptures/prose-edda/Gylfaginning%201.1
```

```json theme={null}
{
  "data": {
    "corpus": {
      "slug": "prose-edda",
      "title": "The Prose Edda",
      "translator": "Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur",
      "year": 1916
    },
    "passages": [
      {
        "ref": "Gylfaginning 1.1",
        "division": 2,
        "text": "King Gylfi ruled the land that men now call Sweden. It is told of him that he gave to a wandering woman, in return for her merry-making, a plow-land in his realm, as much as four oxen might turn up in a day and a night...."
      }
    ]
  }
}
```

The slug `prose-edda`, the id `prose-edda-brodeur-1916`, and the prefix `prose edda` all name this text.
