# Mutual Best Pairs

> A Urantia paragraph and a passage where each is the other's closest match in that text, under both text-embedding-3-large and text-embedding-3-small. These are the most stable links in the data. Ranked by similarity. Filter with `corpus` (a corpus name or `bible`).

Scores come from the nine world religions texts and the World English Bible. For each text, a paragraph's best match becomes a percentile within that text, after an adjustment for paragraph length. The texts are not independent votes: a paragraph that sounds devotional tends to score well in all of them. These are measures of closeness in meaning by an embedding model, not claims about the teachings.

                        3. The Cynic. Although the Cynics traced their
philosophy to Diogenes of Athens, they derived much of
their doctrine from the remnants of the teachings of
Machiventa Melchizedek. Cynicism had formerly been more
of a religion than a philosophy. At least the Cynics
made their religio-philosophy democratic. In the fields
and in the market places they continually preached their
doctrine that “man could save himself if he would.” They
preached simplicity and virtue and urged men to meet
death fearlessly. These wandering Cynic preachers did
much to prepare the spiritually hungry populace for the
later Christian missionaries. Their plan of popular
preaching was much after the pattern, and in accordance
with the style, of Paul’s Epistles.

Such are the lives of the several Cynics. But we will go
on to append the doctrines which they held in common –
if, that is, we decide that Cynicism is really a
philosophy, and not, as some maintain, just a way of
life. They are content then, like Ariston of Chios, to
do away with the subjects of Logic and Physics and to
devote their whole attention to Ethics. And what some
assert of Socrates, Diocles records of Diogenes,
representing him as saying: "We must inquire into
Whate'er of good or ill within our halls is wrought."
They also dispense with the ordinary subjects of
instruction. At least Antisthenes used to say that those
who had attained discretion had better not study
literature, lest they should be perverted by alien
                        influences.
